Vanessa Sweeney, MSed, ATC, became a member of the Monmouth University sports medicine staff in 2006 and was promoted to her role of Associate Director for Sports Medicine in 2015. Her primary duties include men’s soccer and the women’s lacrosse teams. Previously she worked with the men’s basketball and tennis teams. She serves as the liaison for mental health services and helps coordinate the athletics education programing.

Sweeney, the former Vanessa Christensen, served as a graduate assistant athletic trainer at Monmouth, while earning her MSed in School Counseling. During that time she worked primarily with the football, softball and women’s lacrosse teams and was an integral part of the Peer Leadership programs. 

Before attending Monmouth, Sweeney received her Bachelor of Science degree in Athletic Training from West Chester University of Pennsylvania. 

A native of Colts Neck, Sweeney resides in Wall, with her husband Brian, daughter Lily and son Wyatt.
