Assistant Athletics Director for Sports Performance, Alex Keough is in his sixth season at Campbell.

Keough was elevated to Assistant AD in January 2023 after serving as Director of Olympic Sports for five seasons. 

Keough was named the Assistant Director of Strength and Conditioning at CU in August of 2017, coming to Buies Creek after serving as the director of athletic performance at Seattle University from 2013-17.  

Keough works with the Fighting Camel men's and women's soccer, and women's basketball teams.

Prior to his time at Seattle, Keough was a lead sports performance specialist at End Zone Athletics in Kirkland, Wash., during the 2012-13 academic year. He developed research-based performance enhancement programs for athletes at the high school, collegiate and professional level.

Keough was a strength and conditioning assistant at the University of Montana from Sept. to Dec. 2012. While in Missoula, he assisted in the design and implementation of strength and conditioning programs for the football, men’s and women’s basketball, women’s soccer and track & field squads. Keough was also involved in the upkeep of the Griz Sports Performance Center.

During the summer of 2012, he was the primary strength and conditioning intern at the University of Washington for men's basketball, and assisted with the football and soccer programs.

Before his stint at Washington, Keough worked at the Seattle University athletic department in different capacities between 2009 and 2012 while working towards his Master’s degree in sports administration and leadership. He was the graduate assistant strength and conditioning coach from April 2009 to June 2011 and the assistant strength and conditioning coach from July 2011 to June 2012.

Keough earned a second Master’s degree in exercise science from California University of Pennsylvania in 2013. He earned a Bachelor’s of Science in political science from the University of California Riverside in 2005, where he was a goalkeeper for the men’s soccer team.

He is SCCC certified through the CSCCA and a certified strength and conditioning specialist (CSCS) through the National Strength & Conditioning Association. In addition, Keough holds a Level 1 Precision Nutrition certification, a USAW Level 1, and a CPR and First-Aid certification through the American Heart Association. He is a Functional Range Conditioning Movement Specialist, a NASM Corrective Exercise and Performance Enhancement Specialist and a Bioforce Certified Conditioning Coach.
