Charles Nobles joined the McMurry University staff in 2016, first as an assistant coach for both the women's and men's soccer programs, and then was named the women's head coach in 2017. On September 12, 2021, in just his fifth season as head coach, Nobles became the winningest coach in the program's young history with his 27th win.

In 2019, Nobles was named American Southwest Conference Coach of the Year in what many consider the program's "arrival" to annual contention.

In six seasons, Nobles owns a record of 43-46-15. Over the last four years, the War Hawks are 33-20-14.

The 2022 slate saw the program play host to an American Southwest Conference postseason tournament match where they knocked off UT-Dallas and then nearly followed that up with a victory at Mary-Hardin-Baylor that was turned away by a late Crusaders goal closing out an impressive 8-6-4 campaign. In 2021, Nobles led McMurry through waters that many in the American Southwest Conference have not charted — beating Hardin-Simmons. The War Hawks handed the Cowgirls their first conference loss since 2016 on October 30, 2021, winning a 1-0 shutout at Wilford Moore Stadium. The team went on to finish with a conference semifinal appearance and an 11-5-3 record, falling one win short of the single-season program record, while placing a record seven players on all-conference teams. The War Hawks also hosted a quarterfinal tournament game for the second time in its history, beating Howard Payne in penalty kicks to advance to the semis.

Nobles also coached the War Hawks to a historic season in 2019, as McMurry set a program record with 12 wins and hosted and won its first ASC Tournament game as the fourth seed. That game was also the first time McMurry hosted a quarterfinal match, beating fifth-seeded LeTourneau 2-1. In the semifinals, the War Hawks were on the verge of overtime against regular season champion Hardin-Simmons, but allowed a penalty kick in the final 10 seconds to fall 2-1 at the HSU Soccer Complex. Nonetheless, McMurry had completed its most successful season to date. In that 2019 season, the team broke numerous offensive and defensive records. In addition to Nobles winning Coach of the Year, six players earned all-conference honors, including ASC Freshman of the Year Alyssa Daily. McMurry also had three players selected to the United Soccer Coaches All-Region team for the first time.

Nobles also led the team through the Spring 2021 season forced by COVID-19. McMurry went 2-5-1 overall with games against NCAA D1 opponent Lousiana Tech, NCAA D2 opponent Lubbock Christian, defending ASC Champion Hardin-Simmons and UT Dallas in the ASC Championship tournament among others. Nobles led his team to the ASC Championship tournament for a third straight season and celebrated the graduation of nine seniors. Five players earned all-conference awards, including first team selection Sky Reynolds.

The 2018 season saw McM reach its first ASC Tournament in program history, qualifying as the No. 8 seed. Five players earned All-ASC honors as the War Hawks went 6-12-1, 3-7-1 ASC. In his first season at the helm in 2017, the team went 4-14 overall. Three War Hawks' players - Angelica Navarro, Emily Fisher and Cristen Lumbreras - were all recognized with post-season awards from the American Southwest Conference. Navarro became the first-ever McM player to receive an all-American award, when she was tabbed as a second-team honoree by the NCCAA.

Prior to McM, Nobles spent three seasons as the head girls' coach at Burleson High School. His team made the postseason in two of those three campaigns (after having only advanced three times the previous 13 years in total). His teams showed an improved won-lost record each season, as well. His teams also got it done in the classroom and community. They won recognition from the NSCAA with its Team Academic Award, as well as its "Golden Ball" for team ethics and sportsmanship. Those team's also raise better than $4,000 for charity through the Kickin' Cancer campaign. Prior to heading the Burleson program, Nobles was a boys and girls assistant coach at Midlothian High School for three years. Both teams advanced to the post-season all three years and won two district championships.  For his efforts, Nobles received the 2013 Region 1 Assistant Coach of the Year from the Texas Association of Soccer Coaches.

Nobles has also coached for the Texas Lightning Soccer Club. Additionally, he was a club coach for the Sam Houston State men's soccer club. He has also been a part of numerous youth soccer camps in the Metroplex, as well as coaching YMCA teams. He holds a USSF National D License, a NSCAA National Diploma, NSCAA National Goalkeeping Diploma and a Coerver Youth Diploma. He is also a certified mental performance coach. Nobles' volunteer work includes work with One Goal 23. The organization runs free Christian soccer camps nationwide.

Nobles earned his bachelor's degree in political science from the University of Texas-Arlington. He later earned his master's degree in Education from the University of Missouri. The Arlington native currently resides in Abilene with his wife, Brooke, and three children, Landry, Paisley and Austin.
