Dennis Jezek, Jr., has been with Barry University in athletic communications since 2000, spending one year as the Assistant Sports Information Director before taking over role as Director of Athletic Communications in August 2001. He is responsible for the coordination of all 13 sports at Barry including publications, website maintenance, statistics, photography and special events. Jezek is also the primary contact at Barry for men's & women's soccer, women's basketball, and baseball.
Prior to Barry, Jezek spent six years as the Assistant Sports Information Director at the University of West Florida under SID Karen Harrell. While there, he assisted in all areas for the 11-sport program competing in both the NAIA and NCAA Division II. Jezek initiated computer statistical programs for five sports and helped transfer the department to digital photography and file storage. He designed and built the university's first athletic website from scratch.
In addition, Jezek has had the opportunities to coordinate statistical and internet coverage for several national tournaments including: 1994-96 NAIA National Softball Tournaments, 1998 and 2004 NCAA Division II Softball Tournaments, 2000 Division II Men's & Women's Soccer Championships, 2004 NCAA Division II Volleyball Championships and the 1999-2000 and 2005 NCAA Division II Men's and Women's Tennis Tournaments.
Jezek earned his BA in Sports Publicity and Humanities from New College at the University of Alabama in 1991, and also served as a student assistant to SID Larry White while there. He interned for a year at Norfolk State University as the Assistant SID under the late John Holley before heading to Shippensburg University of Pennsylvania to study for his master's degree. Jezek served as a graduate assistant in sport information department at Shippensburg under SID John Alosi while earning an MS in communications with a concentration in journalism.
He has served on several ranking committees, including the 2014-16 South Region Women's Tennis Regional Advisory Committee (RAC), the 2017-19 South Region Softball RAC and currently serves on the men's soccer RAC.
During his career in sports information, Jezek has received over 40 Top-10 commendations from CoSIDA publications contests, including 13 "Best in Nation" awards.
