Jason Gutheil is in his 24th year as an assistant to his wife and head coach Laurie Darling Gutheil. He has been engaged with training the team’s goalkeepers and defenders since 2005, and is heavily involved in recruiting and game analysis in addition to skill development and tactics.

His insights have produced three All-American goalkeepers in Lauren Steinberg ('07), Deanna Esposito ('10), and Marika Laurendeau ('20), along with Jessica Gerski (’13) who helped propel The College of Saint Rose to the 2011 National Championship, and Susan Cowan (’10) who led the nation in goals-against-average with a school record 0.15 mark in 2009. In addition, Shannon Murphy (’09) garnered All-Region accolades as a senior while Ashley Homer (’14) wound up her career among the College’s top-10 leaders in both GAA and save percentage.

Six keepers have also garnered All-Region accolades, four have earned Northeast-10 Conference All-League honors, and three have been named the NE10 Championship Most Outstanding Player under Gutheil’s tutelage.

Since 2005, five Golden Knights have led the league in GAA and six have paced the NE10 in save percentage. In addition, the top-three and four of the top-five single-season GAA marks in conference history have been recorded by a Saint Rose keeper. The top four career GAA marks are also occupied by a Golden Knights netminder. Furthermore, Saint Rose has recorded the league’s top team GAA throughout four of the past 10 seasons.

Gutheil has also been part of seven NCAA National Semifinal (Final Four) teams, nine NE10 regular-season sides, and eight NE10 Championship Tournament squads.

Outside of Saint Rose women's soccer, Gutheil is a mathematics teacher at Queensbury Middle School in upstate New York. He is also the head varsity baseball coach at Queensbury High School.

Gutheil earned a master’s degree in education from SUNY Plattsburgh in 2000 after graduating cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Hartwick in 1995.
