Cantele begins his 34th year as a member of the athletic training staff at Gettysburg College in 2023-24 and his 16th as Director of Athletic Medicine and Sport Performance.

Cantele oversees four additional full-time staff members and the day-to-day operation of Gettysburg's Athletic Training and Sports Therapy Room. Cantele and his staff handle the health and well-being of nearly 600 student-athletes competing in 24 intercollegiate varsity sports.

Cantele graduated from Gettysburg in 1988 with a degree in health and physical education. As an undergraduate student, he learned the trade from long-time athletic trainer and member of the Gettysburg College Hall of Athletic Honor Lefty Biser '57.

He earned a master’s degree from Old Dominion University in May 1990. While at Old Dominion, he served as a graduate assistant trainer at nearby Norfolk State University. He then served as an athletic trainer in the National Football League with the New England Patriots.

In 2007, Cantele was named the U.S. Women’s Lacrosse Elite Team Athletic Trainer. The Elite team forms the nucleus for the U.S. national team that competes in the World Cup every four years and also has numerous competitions each year, highlighted by the Champions Challenge each January and the Stars & Stripes Weekend each fall. Cantele was a major component of the team's successful run to the gold medal in 2009 and was given the Heart of Lacrosse Award, presented by each team to an individual who made a significant contribution to their experience at the event. Cantele continued his role as the national team's athletic trainer through the 2013 World Cup.

An avid golfer, Cantele is married to Gettysburg College’s recently retired women’s lacrosse head coach, the former Carol Daly '83.
