Michael White took the helm for the Bison in 2010, after being the assistant for two years, and has transitioned OBU women's soccer to one of the top programs in the GAC, appearing in six consecutive GAC Championship Games.
In his 13 years, the Bison women's soccer team has accumulated a record of 137-87-21. In the conference, where Coach White places the most importance, his teams have achieved a 88-32-17 record. The team has made it to the conference tournament championship game every year (6) since joining the GAC.
Among his coaching accolades, White has produced four All-Americans and two Academic All-Americans, as well as 12 all-region and 59 all-conference selections. He's also instructed one GAC Defensive Player of the Year, a GAC Goalkeeper of the Year and two Freshman of the Year honorees in addition to being named the GAC Coach of the Year in 2017 and 2018.
During the most recent season, 2022, OBU made the GAC Tournament Championship. It marked the sixth time in six years that the Bison made the league's tourney final. After the season, seniors Katie Fowler and Maddison Williams, as well as junior Kaylee Swaner, were named to the All-GAC First Team.
Last fall, in 2021, White directed his Bison to a 13-6-1 record and winners of the GAC Tournament after a 1-0 decision over rival Southwestern Oklahoma State.
In 2018 OBU became the first team to go perfect in conference play with a 12-0-0 record. The Bison won their second conference title in a row and made it to the NCAA Central Regional for the first time.
When Oklahoma Baptist claimed its first regular season Great American Conference title under White in 2017 after becoming just the second team in conference history to go unbeaten in league play with a 9-0-3 record. The squad went 15-2-3 overall, reaching the GAC Championship, while setting a program record for shutouts (10) and tying the program records for wins (15).
The Bison women's soccer team reached new heights in 2016, finishing as the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) National Runners-Up following a third-place finish in the Great American Conference. Led by NCCAA All-Americans Kenzi Bice and Ruth King, OBU tied the school record with 15 wins, including the program's first upset of a ranked Division II opponent (Texas Woman's).
Other coaching experiences include assistant men’s coaching position at Palm Beach Atlantic University, the head women's soccer coaching role at Montreat College for five seasons, and the head men and women’s role at Stratford Academy in Macon, GA winning two state championships and one runner-up.
Soccer is year around for Coach White. He coaches competitive soccer for the Norman Youth Soccer Association in the fall and spring and during the winter months he directs the Bison Winter Futsal league at OBU’s wellness center to raise money for the Bison women's soccer annual mission trips which have included trips to Boulder, Colorado, Daytona Beach, Florida, Fairbanks, Alaska, Redding, California, and Natal, Brazil.
Using soccer as a tool for ministry is a passion. Since spending two years as a youth sports developer in Cambodia and Uzbekistan as part of the Southern Baptist International Mission Board, he has also taken soccer teams to England, Thailand, Laos, Australia, New Zealand and West Asia.
If not on the soccer field coaching, you’ll find coach White enjoying spending time with his wife Mandy (OBU ’94) and their seven children Hannah, Matthew, Michaela, Hali, Hope, Hudson and Moriah.
A player and graduate of Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama, White went on to attend the University of Alabama - Birmingham to earn his Masters degree in Sport Administration.
White also is a certified United States Soccer Federation coach with a national ‘A' Level Coaching License and has attended the USSF national GK course as part of his continuing education credits.
