A former soccer standout at Monmouth, Payton Gosell returned to her alma mater as an assistant coach in August 2022.

Gosell played in 53 games for the Scots, starting 47 times. She scored three goals and handed out five assists while anchoring the defense to 14 clean sheets in her career. Gosell scored her first career goal on Sep. 9, 2018 against Alvertno College and scored again six days later against Concordia Chicago.

She helped the Scots to a Midwest Conference Championship and a NCAA Tournament appearance in 2019, starting all 21 games and logging a career-high 1,477 minutes. After the 2020 season was canceled, Gosell started 14 games in 2021 and bagged the game-winning goal against Cornell on October 26 in a 2-0 win.

Gosell attended Monmouth College with her twin sister Jordyn, also a soccer player. Both Gosell's were on the women's basketball team that also won the MWC Tournament and went to the NCAAs in 2019-20.

A native of Grayslake, Illinois, Gosell was an all-area center back at Grayslake Central. She currently resides in Colona with her boyfriend Shamus Murphy (Monmouth alum), their three cats and black lab pup.
