Sophia Wendt joins the Lehigh women’s soccer coaching staff as a graduate assistant for the 2023 season. Wendt will work with Lehigh’s goalkeepers.

A native of Cottage Grove, Wis., Wendt spent the last four seasons as a goalkeeper at Southeastern Louisiana University and was a member of the Lions’ Southland Conference championship squad that reached the NCAA Tournament in the spring of 2021. Wendt started six games as a first-year goalkeeper and saw time in four contests as a senior in 2022.

In addition to her work as a student-athlete, Wendt coached at Camp Shutout, the nation’s largest goalkeeper camp, in addition to offering private instruction to youth goalkeepers. Wendt ran goalkeeper training last spring at her alma mater. She also interned with Ideal Performance, where she ran social media accounts and assisted with goalkeeper training.

Wendt graduated from Southeastern Louisiana in the spring with a degree in psychology and a minor in athletic coaching. She will be pursuing her Master’s in counseling at Lehigh.

Outside of soccer and school, Wendt helps with a non-profit organization called Project One Goal, which brings soccer camps to under-resourced communities.

Wendt is exploring the Lehigh Valley with her dog Bruce.
