In August of 2022, former Sacramento Republic head assistant coach Benjamin Ziemer officially rejoined the Sonoma State men's soccer staff in his second stint with the program.

A Northern California native, Ziemer played for the men's soccer program at Sonoma State for two seasons back in 1990 and 1991. He helped the program to an NCAA DII National Championship appearance during the '91 season and put his imprint on the program. Ziemer etched his name in the record books, finishing top-10 in career assists and top-5 in season assists after recording 12 during the '90 season. His success on the field earned him a 2015 induction into the Sonoma State Athletics Hall of Fame.

After concluding his collegiate career at SSU, Ziemer went on to play in the German 4th Division for Westfalia Herne for two seasons. Upon his return to the states, Ziemer played in the USISL as a member of the North Bay Breakers and then later with Juventus SC as a member of the California Premier League. Ziemer then moved to the coaching ranks with NorCal Premier where he currently holds several high positions ranging from recruiting and development, to coaching and player education.

Ziemer would go on to join the Seawolves coaching staff in 2004 during some of the best seasons in the program's history. Sonoma State won three CCAA Championships during that time frame and also made five NCAA Tournament appearances including four straight from 2007-10. In 2015 Ziemer departed SSU and became the head coach of the Sacramento Republic Academy U-19 team in the United Soccer League (USL). Ziemer later became a member of the coaching staff for the U-17 academy team before earning himself a spot on the first team's coaching staff as the head assistant coach in 2018. Ziemer spent the last three years with NorCal Premier before accepting the job at Sonoma State this summer.

"I was lucky to be able to land Benjamin as my top assistant coach. He was on staff from 2004-2011 in one of our most successful eras. His experience as a player and as a coach in the youth, college, professional and national team ranks brings a unique intensity and experience which is invaluable. I am excited to work with him again and see his influence with our team and our program moving forward" (Marcus Ziemer).
