Bill Garno begins his 28th season at the helm of the Rochester Institute of Technology Men’s Soccer program in 2023.

Garno has led the Tigers to three NCAA Tournament appearances (2000, 2001 and 2004) and eight conference tournament appearances, including five trips to the Liberty League Tournament. Prior to joining the Liberty League, Garno led the Tigers to four Empire 8 Championships, earning Empire 8 Coach of the Year honors in 2000 and 2006.

Over the past 27 seasons, Garno’s teams have compiled a 212-191-53 record (.522) and is one of only two coaches in program history to eclipse the 100-win plateau.

Under Garno’s tutelage, 34 Tigers have received All-Liberty League honors since joining the conference in 2011, including 2022 All-Liberty League selections Randy Dickersbach, Jaden Longdon, Adam Wuest and Carlos Cordona, while Dickersbach was a United States Soccer Coaches All-Region III selection. From 1999-2010 43 different Tigers earned All-Empire 8 honors. Garno has coached four different conference Players of the Year, including Simon Garno, the 2019 Liberty League Co-Player of the Year.

Garno’s players have excelled in the classroom, earning numerous academic honors. Sixteen Tigers were named to the 2022 Liberty League All-Academic Team, while the team was a United Soccer Coaches Team Academic Award recipient for the 11th time with a 3.47 cumulative team grade-point average. Daniel Gebura, Patrick Kenyon and Jason Trapp were College Sports Communicators Academic All-Region selections.

From 1983 to 1986, Garno was a defender for the Tigers, helping RIT to an impeccable 59-8-6 record, four conference titles and four appearances in the NCAA Tournament. After a successful collegiate career at RIT, Garno turned to coaching. Prior to taking over at RIT, he served as an assistant coach at the University of Rochester from 1992 to 1995.

A 1988 graduate of RIT, Garno lives in Rochester with his wife, Marcey. They have three children, Bailey (30), Ellie (28), and Simon (25), who played for his dad from 2016-2019.
