Canchila joins the LCU coaching staff before the 2023 season following a successful playing career at the University of Charleston (W.V.), where he collected multiple team awards, individual awards, and played in two NCAA DII National Tournaments – making the National Tournament Final on one occasion. The Bogota, Colombia native graduated from Charleston in 2021 with a Bachelor's Degree in Business Management. He also recently completed his Master's Degree in Strategic Leadership from Charleston. Duvan played for two seasons for the Golden Eagles and holds an overall record of 51-4-1 as a player. He was the team captain and received NCAA All-America, First-Team All-Atlantic Region, MEC Defensive Player of the Year and First-Team All-Conference (Mountain East Conference) honors during his collegiate career.

During the summer months, Duvan has spent time in the US playing with USL2's Des Moines Menace, South Bend Lions (captain) and the FC Tucson (captain). The Lions went 10-2-2 and FC Tucson went 10-1-4 with Canchila playing on the backline.
