Hugh McCarthy joins Kean for his seventh season in 2023, but has over 20 years of coaching experience.

His stops include four years at Bloomfield College as an assistant coach for Peter-John Falloon. In addition he spent three years serving as an assistant coach at Union County College.

McCarthy was recognized as the Most Outstanding Youth Player while playing for Cavalier SC. He has represented his country, Jamaica, at the under-20 level and also at the senior level.

McCarthy served as the head coach of August Town FC (Kingston, Jamaica) and was the assistant coach for the Jamaica under 20 team. He was also the Technical Director at Arnette Garden FC. At Union County College, he helped the team to a NJCAA Conference Championship, District Championship and Regional Championship. He was recognized as part of the NJCAA Coaching Staff of the Year (2007).
