Matt Guinto was named Head Men's Soccer Coach at Marywood in March 2022. He will also serve as the Facilities Manager for the Center for Athletics and Wellness. Guinto comes to Marywood after serving as Associate Head Coach at Vassar College in New York.

At Vassar, Guinto was promoted to Associate Head Coach for themen's soccer team in June of 2020. He joined the program as an assistant in 2019. A Syracuse, NY-native, Guinto came to Vassar having spent two seasons as the assistant coach at Utica College. Guinto also served as part of the facilities staff for the Vassar Athletics Department.

During his tenure, Guinto has helped the Brewers to a 11-4-2 (5-2-2 Liberty League) record in 2021 and to nine victories in 2019. The squad's season was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic for the Fall 2020.

In that 2019 season, the Brewers posted impressive Liberty League victories over Bard, Union, St. Lawrence, Clarkson, RIT and then 22nd-ranked Ithaca at home in late October. Vassar advanced to the Liberty League Tournament, shouldering a tough 1-1 draw to RIT that saw the Tigers advance on penalty kicks. Guinto has helped mentor a number of outstanding players during his tenure, including three on All-League Honorable Mention, as well as 22 Liberty League All-Academic selections.

In his first season at Utica, Guinto helped the program recover from a 2-13-1 campaign in 2016 to an 8-9-2 record in the 2017 season. He left Utica after two seasons as the assistant, helping the program to 13 combined wins and recording the program’s first-ever victories over Stevens Technology and Hobart College.

Guinto’s first experiences with coaching came at the club level with Greater Binghamton Football Club (Binghamton, NY) and with New York State West Olympic Development Program (ODP). He coached the ’02 Select Boys side to three consecutive finals in 2016, as well as a semi-final penalty shootout loss at the 2017 Disney Wide World of Sports President’s Day Cup, and a championship at the 2017 FC Delco Championships. Guinto also played three seasons for the club’s NPSL team and led the team in minutes played in his debut season. He helped his side record wins over DC United and New York Red Bulls, and has made 3 appearances in the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup.

Guinto is a 2011 graduate of St. John Fisher College, where he played all four years and in 66 matches. He helped lead the Cardinals to the Empire 8 Conference Tournament three times, including an E8 Championship game appearance as a freshman in 2007. In his junior season he helped pace the Cardinals to an ECAC Upstate Championship crown. As a senior, he was named a captain.

Guinto is a USSF National D-Licensed and NSCAA Level 6-Licensed coach. He also holds a Level 1 Goalkeeper License through the NSCAA.
