Dan Lensby joined the Illinois State athletic department during the spring of 2020 and has since been promoted to Assistant Director of Athletic Performance.

Lensby will oversee and implement all aspects of athletic development and performance for Women’s Basketball, Softball, and Cross Country. Along with these, he will also oversee any sport science-based practices within the department and serve as a facilitator for the biomechanics research collaboration with academics.

Prior to ISU, he was an assistant athletic performance coach at the University of Vermont where he was responsible for women’s basketball, women’s lacrosse, field hockey, women’s soccer, swimming and diving, as well as being the lead assistant for men’s basketball and men’s lacrosse. While at Vermont, he utilized various monitoring technologies to keep his teams on the cutting edge of sports performance. Systems he utilized: bilateral force plate profiling, heart rate monitoring, GPS accelerometers, bar speed monitors, and laser timing systems.

Before joining Vermont’s staff, Lensby was an assistant strength and conditioning coach at Saginaw Valley State where he was responsible for softball, women’s soccer, swimming and diving, and assisted with football. Before joining the Cardinals, he spent time at the University of Mary as a graduate assistant, where he was responsible for the oversight of training programs for men’s basketball, softball, and baseball. Prior to being a graduate assistant, Lensby spent time at North Dakota State and Marquette while primarily focusing on the athletic development of men’s and women’s basketball, volleyball, softball, and baseball.

Lensby earned his M.S. in Kinesiology, while conducting force plate research at the University of Mary in Bismarck, ND. Lensby also has a bachelor’s degree in Sports and Exercise Science with concentrations in coaching and nutrition. He maintains certifications through the NSCA (CSCS), USA Weightlifting (USAW Lv1), and Functional Movement Systems (FMS).
