Illinois State soccer announced the addition of Paul Meehan as an Associate Head Coach to work alongside Head Coach Raleigh DeRose in leading the Redbird soccer program in 2024.

Meehan joins the Redbirds after a season at Hawaii Pacific as an assistant coach for the men's soccer program, but has had a variety of experience, coaching at eight different collegiate programs. In 2022, Meehan was apart of the Cal State Stanislaus men's soccer staff for a season.

Prior to his stints at Hawaii Pacific and Cal State Stanislaus, Meehan served as the Head Coach of the Gonzaga University men's soccer program. During his eight-year tenure at Gonzaga, Meehan served as the assistant coach (2013-2017) as well as the head coach of the program (2017-2021) after the retirement of longtime head coach Einar Thorarinsson. Meehan coached 20 All-WCC honorees, as well as helped to lead the Zags to a third place conference finish in 2019. In 2016 and 2017, he helped the Zags to back-to-back mid-season poll rankings coming in at No. 20 and No. 22 in the United Soccer Coaches Top-25 polls respectively.

From 2010 to 2013, Meehan served as the head coach of the men's soccer program at Corban University. At Corban, Meehan led his squad to the 2011 conference final. Prior to his three years at Corban, Meehan was the Associate Head Coach at Oregon State University, where he helped lead recruiting efforts bringing in names such as Danny Mwanga who became the 2008 Pacific-10 Conference Freshman of Year and later the No. 1 selection in the 2009 MLS SuperDraft with the Philadelphia Union.

Meehan also spent time at NCAA Division I institutions of both Marshall University (1997-98, 2003-06) and Fresno State University (1998-99). While at Fresno State, the Bulldogs earned the 1998 Western Athletic Conference title as well as an appearance in the NCAA tournament.

Meehan began his collegiate coaching career at Bellevue Community College in Washington where he led them to championships in the Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges in 1989, 1994, and 1995. Meehan also led the squad to becoming finalists in the NWAACC in 1990 and 1996.

As a member of the Western Washington University soccer team from 1980-82, Meehan served as team captain and was an all-conference selection in 1981. He graduated in 1983 with a degree in physical education.

Upon graduation from Western Washington in 1984, continued his playing career for the American Indoor Soccer Association's Milwaukee Wave reserve team.
