Jason Erickson joined the Utah Valley University athletic department in Sept., 2014. He fronts the publicity efforts for men’s basketball, women’s soccer and men’s/women's golf.

Erickson has earned multiple College Sports Information Directors Association of America (CoSIDA) publications and digital design awards. He most recently earned CoSIDA's ChangeMaker Innovation Award for his creative idea to promote WAC Player of the Year and NBA prospect Fardaws Aimaq. Erickson created the "Big Maple" campaign which included sending out custom-labeled Aimaq maple syrup bottles with Aimaq's accomplishments so that the mid-major school and standout basketball player would catch the attention of the national media. The campaign was successful as Aimaq was featured around the nation, including a video segment on the Dan Patrick Show.

His "Big Maple" Aimaq campaign also won a pair of National Association of Collegiate Marketing Administrators (NACMA) "Best Of" Gold Awards at the 2022 national NACMA convention.

He helped lead the UVU athletic communications and marketing team to a Best of Show award at the 2018 Golden Spike Awards (Public Relations Society of America Greater Salt Lake and Utah County Chapters) for its men's basketball Toughest 24 publicity and media relations campaign. Erickson has also been honored at UVU with a Division of Excellence Award.

Toughest 24 put the Utah Valley University men's basketball team in the national spotlight with its games at Kentucky and Duke on back-to-back nights to open the 2017-18 basketball season. The project got local and national media to cover the event and embedded them with the team on the trip for a behind-the-scenes look at UVU hoops.

Erickson helped finalize a partnership with KSL TV in 2017 to stream UVU’s athletic events, post exclusive content on its website (KSLsports.com), and to create space for UVU athletics on the KSL TV app.

Erickson joined the Wolverines after working seven years at the Western Athletic Conference in Denver, Colorado. He led publicity efforts for the Conference and was the primary contact for men’s basketball, baseball, women's soccer, golf and gymnastics. He also served as the media coordinator for the WAC's annual men's basketball and baseball championships and was in charge of coordinating special events for the league, including the conference's Basketball Media Preview in Las Vegas.

Erickson served as a timeout coordinator for the 2011, 2012 and 2014 NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament and worked with the nation’s conference media relations directors at the 2011 Division I Men's Basketball Final Four at Reliant Stadium in Houston, the 2012 Final Four at the Superdome in New Orleans, the 2013 Final Four at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta and the 2014 Final Four at AT&T Stadium in Dallas, Texas.

He guided media and publicity efforts of the WAC for Fresno State's improbable run to the 2008 College World Series title at Rosenblat Stadium in Omaha, Neb. Fresno State's CWS title remains one of the biggest underdog stories in NCAA history.

He also spent four years at Idaho State University, where he served as the Assistant Director of Athletic Media Relations. He was the primary contact for a variety of sports, including women's basketball where he guided media efforts for two WNIT appearances and an NCAA postseason berth. He coordinated the publicity campaigns of several All-Americans at Idaho State, including 2007 AP and WBCA All-American Natalie Doma.

Erickson coordinated the media efforts of thee NCAA championships and four Big Sky Conference championships at Idaho State. He served as the color commentator for radio broadcasts of ISU women’s basketball games during his time at ISU.

Erickson spent a one-year internship in the sports information department at Otterbein University in Westerville, Ohio (2002-03). At Otterbein, he was in charge of publicity for men' basketball, baseball, men's and women's soccer, volleyball, track and field, and tennis.

Erickson received his bachelor's degree in public relations and broadcast journalism from Southern Utah University in May 2002. As an undergraduate, he worked at the 2002 Salt Lake Winter Olympics as a public relations specialist for the speed skating competition at the Utah Olympic Oval in Kearns, Utah. He also served as a Russian interpreter at the Olympic games.

At SUU, Erickson was the sports editor for the University Journal, sports director of SUTV and the sports director of KSUU radio. In addition, he was the play-by-play voice of SUU women's basketball. He also served as a stringer for the Deseret News and the Salt Lake Tribune during his time at SUU.

He also attended UVU (then UVSC) from 1998-2000 and worked as the sports editor for The College Times (now UVU Review).

Erickson received his master's degree in athletic administration from Idaho State in 2006.
