In her second season as head coach of the Warriors, Jaggard was faced with adversity not included in her job description: the COVID-19 pandemic. Due to COVID-19 protocols, the NAIA delayed fall sport championships to the spring, meaning the club's season opener would be pushed back nearly six months.
Strangely enough, Westmont's "2020" season opener did not occur until February, 5, 2021, a 1-0 loss against Fresno Pacific.
All in all the warriors were only able to take the field 12 times during the 2020 season, but took advantage when they did. Westmont went 6-0 during GSAC play, claiming the conference championship for the second time in as many years for Jaggard.
Unfortunately for the Warriors, out of conference opponents gave Westmont a hard time, as the club went 1-5 against non-GSAC teams. This struggle came to a peak when the Warriors fell to Oregon Tech by a score of 2-0 on April 15, during the NAIA Opening Round.
At the conclusion of a physically and emotionally draining year, Jaggard said, "It has been a wild ride with COVID, a very emotional, up-and-down year. I am proud of my team for sticking it out and continuing to play and work hard. I have seen a lot of development in them this year, especially considering how few games we had leading up to playoffs.
"We have a great foundation for building for the fall. Our seniors will be tremendously missed, but we have a good core. They know what we are all about and they work hard. Hopefully, we will get after it and do something a little more exciting this fall."
The Warriors kick off the 2021 season in August with a pair of local matchups. On August 7 the Warriors will host a scrimmage against NCAA Div. I cal Poly SLO, and on August 14 the Warriors will travel across town to take on UCSB in an exhibition at Harder Stadium.
In her first season as Westmont women's soccer head coach, Jaggard led the Warriors to a share of the Golden State Athletic Conference regular season championship, the program's first conference title since 2015, and to the NAIA National Tournament quarterfinals.
Jaggard began her tenure as head coach in late March of 2019 after serving for the five years prior as an assistant coach at Chico State.
"From a large field of applicants, Jenny rose to the top for several reasons," said Westmont Athletic Director Dave Odell. "I was drawn to her experience with winning programs. Both as a championship high school coach and as a collegiate assistant at Chico State. In particular, she has had the opportunity to work with legendary coach Kim Sutton at Chico State. That went a long way with me."
During Jaggard's five years as an assistant at Chico State, she helped the team to a 53-25-14 overall record and two NCAA Championship Tournament appearances. In her final season, the Wildcats lost only two games, the fewest in a single season in program history.
"Jenny's commitment and experience leading student-athletes as they face the bigger questions of life is also an important factor in her selection. Her interest in academia will help her understand our academic rigor and how athletic participation fits into the whole educational experience of our students."
Jaggard holds a Master of Science in Sport and Recreation Science from Ohio University and a Bachelor of Arts in Biblical Studies from Southwest Baptist University. Her coaching experience includes serving as the girls' soccer head coach at Douglas High School in Minden, Nevada.
"I am very excited to partner with Westmont College in its mission to provide the highest quality, Christian, liberal arts education possible to my student-athletes," said Jaggard. "Westmont's values, beliefs and educational philosophy are in perfect alignment with my personal life mission.
"I believe that my faith and background in biblical studies, coupled with my coaching education and experience, will allow me to thrive and make a positive impact on the lives of others. I view coaching soccer as a vehicle for teaching and preparing student-athletes for life and helping them to grow into their potential.
"My core team values are family, integrity, teamwork, hard work, enthusiasm, leadership, accountability, commitment to growth, respect and service to others. As a coach, I would describe myself as positive, demanding, instructive, encouraging, competitive and passionate about the game and people."
Jaggard is the women's soccer program's 12th head coach. The Warriors have won five NAIA national championships, 11 GSAC regular season championships and three GSAC Tournament titles.
