Katie Escobedo '23 joins the Saint Michael's women's soccer staff for her first season as an assistant coach in 2023. She put together a record-setting goalkeeping career for the Purple Knights, posting program records for season (0.60) and career (0.93) goals-against average.As a senior captain in 2022, Escobedo not only broke both GAA standards but tied a mark with eight season shutouts, a figure that led the Northeast-10 Conference. Escobedo was 16th in Division II in GAA and 18th in save percentage (.864) as a senior while landing New England Women's Intercollegiate Soccer Association (NEWISA) All-New England and NE10 All-Conference laurels. She earned NE10 Academic All-Conference honors twice and qualified for College Sports Communicators Academic All-District as a senior. Escobedo appeared in 38 career games, including 32 starts, while turning in a 11-13-10 mark, 13 shutouts and an .824 save percentage. She is third in program annals in clean sheets and sixth in save percentage.Escobedo's impact was felt significantly in her local communities, as she was an Advanced EMT while serving Saint Michael's Fire and Rescue, the UVM Medical Center, and Our Lady of Providence in Winooski. She was an Admission intern and tour guide, completed a Peace Corps Prep certificate program, and helped raise nearly $30,000 for children facing cancer through a St. Baldrick's Foundation head shaving fundraiser in 2022. Escobedo also covertly worked as Saint Michael's mascot Mike The Knight for three years. A standout in the classroom, Escobedo holds membership in the Chi Alpha Sigma (college athlete), Delta Epsilon Sigma (Catholic colleges), Phi Beta Kappa (liberal arts & sciences) and Psi Chi (psychology) national honor societies.Escobedo closed out her college career with an eventful commencement in May 2023, winning the Katherine Fairbanks Memorial Award while also being chosen by her peers as the undergraduate student speaker. She was recognized with the 2023 Donald Sutton Community Service Award for her service to Saint Michael's Fire and Rescue and landed the institution's NCAA Woman of the Year accolade. A psychology and sociology double major, with a minor in business administration, Escobedo graduated with a cumulative 3.94 grade-point average.
