Katie Stames returns to the Saint Michael's women's soccer program for her third season as an assistant coach in 2023.

Stames coached between 2018 and 2020 at Vermont Academy, including guiding the Wildcats as head coach in 2019 and 2020. Vermont Academy was 16-6-2 - including 15-5-2 in 2019, when it won the New England Preparatory School Athletic Council (NEPSAC) Class D crown - with Stames at the helm. The Wildcats were NEPSAC Class D runners-up in 2018, when Stames served as an assistant coach. During her time at Vermont Academy, Stames was a class dean and math teacher. She has also coached youths through the Capital Soccer Club in Central Vermont.

A 2018 graduate of Saint Lawrence University, Stames finished her career tied for second in program history with 21 career assists while also netting 21 goals. She remains 11th in points (63) and was a captain as a senior. Stames was named a Liberty League All-Conference honorable mention as a sophomore and junior while earning Liberty League All-Academic each of her final three seasons. The Saints were 45-22-8 overall and 16-13-4 in Liberty League play during her tenure, qualifying for the NCAA Division III Tournament her sophomore season.

Stames earned a degree from Saint Lawrence in economics before completing her master's degree in leadership at Northeastern University in 2021. During her time at Saint Lawrence, Stames volunteered with Special Olympics and was a teaching assistant. The Morrisville, Vt., native played for Peoples Academy as a schoolgirl, earning Gatorade Player of the Year and United Soccer Coaches All-America honors as both a junior and senior.
